Easter Crafts

Easter weekend has been and gone for another year. I spent a lovely day on the Good Friday with my friend Lauren at Chatsworth House and Gardens looking at the William Turnball exhibition and sculptures- more on that in a future blog post- and I spent a lovely afternoon on the bank holiday Monday making signs for the rooms in my house out of 'reconditoned materials'.

They're small, simple and very amateur- ish! But I like them. They're bright and cheerful and make me smile when I see them on the doors as I enter the rooms in my house. They're made out of cartridge paper, a Cath Kidston paper shopping bag, a birthday card envelope from years ago and some very very old maps of West and North Yorkshire that I picked up from my favourite second hand bookshop, Daisy Lane Books in Holmfirth, for 50 pence each.

Above are the door signs for the Kitchen/ Dinning room (right) and Spare room (left).

And these are the ones for the bedroom (left) and bathroom (right). The bow is from an umbrella cover! The brolly broke months ago but I kept this lovely bright bow and have finally found a use for it.

Above are close- ups of the spare room and bedroom door signs. The maps on each sign=
Bedroom= Holmfirth, West Yorks.
Spare room= Sutton Bank and White Horse area of North Yorks.
Kitchen/ Dinning room= Ampleforth, North Yorks.
Bathroom= Helmsley, North Yorks.

Coming soon is my review of the William Turnball residency at Chatsworth.

This blog post is dedicated to Margaret Thatcher, Britain's first and, so far, only female Prime Minister, who sadly passed away today. RIP Mrs Thatcher.
